misc headcanons

- a very skilled cook. nimble with a knife. Jin stopped cooking after Lora died, so Mikhail took it upon himself to make sure they ate.
- he taught Akhos how to cook. Patroka loves Akhos' cooking but says Mik's is shit.
- his aptitude with engineering and machinery is largely self-taught.
- loves reading (ancient wisdom field skill) and has extensive knowledge of salvaging (salvaging mastery field skill). there was a lot of salvaging equipment left aboard the Monoceros.
- basically he comes off as a vain dumbass but Mik's actually pretty sharp. he just acts like a complete tool all the time smh.
- very very good at holding his alcohol since his body metabolizes it differently from humans. don't challenge him to a drinking contest.
- his showers probably take like an hour long
- kind of a masochist?? ew

- Haze was with him when they were separated from Lora and Jin. Mikhail was brought in by the Indolines when he stopped running after Haze abruptly returned to her Core Crystal; Haze was confiscated, and Mikhail was rounded up with other refugees to be experimented on.
- after he escaped Indol, he went on the run alone for a while. at some point he met up with Minoth but Minoth reminded him too much of Amalthus, so Mikhail basically told him to go fuck himself when Minoth tried to help.
- Jin found him again about a year later. by then, Mikhail was already steeped in anger and hatred so he did nothing to reassure Jin or help him with his issues. thus, Jin spent much of his time sulking alone away from Mikhail, which is how Malos found him in that rainy alley.
- Mikhail never came to fully trust Malos, even after accepting his alliance and understanding that his behavior was influenced by Amalthus.
- in the end, he trusted Akhos and Patroka more than he trusted Jin. he still loved and looked up to Jin, but questioning the reasons for their rampage near the end of the game made him also question his faith in Jin's dogma.
- his upbeat facade is half sincere and half forced. one part of him peacocks because that's his way of coping, and the other part is genuinely an obnoxious bastard.
- he genuinely mourned Cressidus, but only for a couple days. Jin and Malos did emphasize that they'd all be dying either way, so Mikhail got over his loss pretty quickly.

- his drastically changed personality was largely influenced by the Blade that would have been awakened from the Core Crystal that was implanted into him. initially, the Blade fought against his consciousness but was quickly integrated into his person. this is why Mikhail speaks with an American accent when he spoke with a English accent as a child, and why he's a flirty playboy in the present day.
